Why some colors make you look tired

You wear a color you like, and people tell you that you look tired. Here is why β€” and how to avoid it.

Undertone, the first culprit

A color in the opposite undertone creates visual imbalance. On cool skin, saturated golds and peaches bring out yellow under-eye shadows. On warm skin, icy blues dull the natural rose.

Contrast, the second culprit

A color that is too saturated for a soft contrast crushes your face. A color too pale for a high contrast makes your features disappear. The right contrast keeps your face in the foreground.

How to know it's the color

Test in daylight, without makeup. If your skin looks dull, grey or pulled just because of the garment, it's the color. If nothing changes, the problem is elsewhere (sleep, cut, accessories).
